Packaging and Shipping
It was our dream to eliminate packaging altogether. Ideally, we would like to hand you your product as-is, no ridiculous boxes and bows but when online shopping took over during the 2020 global pandemic, it became clear that our zero-packaging dream wouldn’t happen anytime soon.
It’s a difficult reality to accept because even if we choose recyclable cardboard, the recycling process still costs energy. The best solution right now is packaging made of recycled materials and then can be recycled or composted at the end of its life.
The mailers we’ve purchased from Buy Eco Green are made of recycled paper and can be thrown in your blue bin when you’re done with it. We’ve purchased mailers from Noissue that are made of recycled plastic and can be recycled again.
The real winner though is the tape we’re using. We have purchased it from Heapsgood and it’s compostable! It’s made of natural rubber and can biodegrade in a minimum of 60 days. Very cool.
Packaging is so wasteful, but unfortunately it's so necessary. We are content with our choice of mailers so far. The next step will be to have entirely compostable mailers but they just aren’t strong enough for international travel yet. We are optimistic that biodegradable mailers will improve over time and in the meantime, we will keep looking for other possibilities.
This one is like packaging; so wasteful but unfortunately… unavoidable. How to ship items without polluting is a challenge to say the least.
Our first decision was to say no to planes for long distance travel, even if this means a longer wait for our customers. We still strongly feel this is the most sustainable option today.
And when it comes to national and local deliveries, we're constantly looking for the best eco conscious options according to our constraints when we send our packages.
